ChatGPT Agent - How Can You Use it in Your Business?

What is ChatGPT Agent?

OpenAI has recently launched a new product dubbed ChatGPT Agent, which is an “agentic AI” extension of ChatGPT designed to think and act autonomously. It does this by carrying out complex tasks using its own virtual computer. Unlike the standard ChatGPT, which mainly responds to user queries, the Agent can proactively execute multi-step workflows using tools such as a web browser, a terminal, connectors to external apps (e.g., Gmail, GitHub, etc.) as well as the ability to access APIs.

Core Features

  • Web navigation & data extraction: the Agent can browses websites, fill out forms, scrape info from public (web) or other connected data sources such as company databases you give it access to

  • Knowledge worker tasks: create/edit slides, analyze and update spreadsheets, complete forms, and conduct ‘deep research’ style analysis and generate detailed documents presenting the results of the analysis

  • Email & app integrations: read and summarize Gmail, and interact with tools & apps such as GitHub, Google Drive and SharePoint via connectors

  • Command‑line use & API interactions: the Agent has terminal access capabilities that allow it to run to run code or to query APIs as part of task workflows

Business Use Cases

Here are some of the ways that businesses will be able to use ChatGPT Agent to improve workflows -

  • Automated Research & Reporting

Delegate complex tasks like competitor analysis, market research, or trend tracking. The Agent can browse information sources, synthesize findings, and generate reports or slide decks summarizing insights

  • Workflow Automation

The Agent could be used to handle repetitive tasks such as filling out online forms, submitting information, or updating business systems - reducing employee time spent on rote work

  • Email & Appointment Management

Summarize messages, draft replies, request calendar slots, or schedule meetings - semi-autonomously managing administrative overhead (with Human-in-the-Loop oversight as needed)

  • Sales and Procurement Assistants

Plan purchases, compare vendors, generate quotes or product pricing tables, all by browsing supplier sites and collecting and analyzing structured information

  • Data Wrangling & Spreadsheet Management

Extract data from internal files or online sources, populate and update spreadsheets, generate charts, or run complex analyses, all through the Agent’s integrated virtual environment.

  • Cross‑Platform Integration

By connecting apps like Gmail, GitHub, Google Drive, or SharePoint, it can act on tasks that span multiple systems - making it ideal for supporting DevOps pipelines or collaborative documentation workflows

  • Onboarding & Support Automation

Tasks like onboarding workflows or support ticket triage can be automated, freeing customer success teams to focus on escalations and high value interactions
